Susan Gourley is an interdisciplinary artist based in Brisbane. As a DVA candidate at Queensland College of Art (QCA), she is the recipient of a Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship. Employing practice-led research, Susan is currently exploring ways that sculptural objects created from waste material might engage with cross-cultural perspectives that promote and seek to mobilise a change in ecological discourse in Australian culture. Here, waste material provides metaphoric potential that aims to interrogate and disrupt prevailing historical Eurocentric and anthropocentric ideologies and assumptions that still exist in Australian culture. Susan’s approach is an ecofeminist, self-reflexive and interpretative response to being a descendent of a colonising culture. Watch This Space in Alice Springs has announced Susan as part of their artist residency and exhibition program for July and August in 2017.
