A researcher and lecturer at the Queensland College of Art, Rae Cooper has over 10 years experience as a commercial designer. She utilises her professional experience to scaffold her design curriculum, ensuring her students are exposed to real world industry practice, in conjunction with critical understanding and theory.
Rae still maintains a small number of freelance clients and commercial projects, however in 2012 her professional focus shifted towards design thinking, research and using her professional skill set for positive social change. She is expected to complete her Doctorate in 2017 and holds a Masters with Class I Honours in Design Futures and a Graduate Diploma in Education from QUT, majoring in Technology and The Arts.
In addition to her innovative teaching methods, Rae is heavily involved in the development and quality of the first year curriculum, instigating and imbedding retention strategies in conjunction with student experience initiatives. Rae received a Highly Commended Teaching Award in 2014 for her work in graduate employability and creative industries.
