Thalie Art Foundation supports a Montessori’s school in South India welcoming 700 children from 3 to 15 years old initiated by Human Uplift Trust dedicated to break the social determinism of the Dalit community. Founded in 1987, Human Uplift Trust (HUT) runs a formal school for 752 children of rural dalith agricultural families in Trichy District, as well as an orphanage for 103 HIV children. This disadvantaged rural communities have no access to education and children of this caste have to leave school generally at 11 years old to work in the fields as their parents, mostly illiterate. Thanks to the work of HUT, they can graduate, go to university and finally get a job. In addition to this support, Thalie Art Foundation is working on a residency program of young contemporary artists in Manachanallur for January 2017. Artists will be invited in an immersive way with the duty of creating in interaction with the children, and in the goal to increase their abilities to socialize.
Residency duration: 3 weeks (maximum) from January to March 2017
