Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women have served in our armed services in all conflicts that Australian forces have been involved in, from the Boer War to Afghanistan. In recognition of their service and sacrifice, a memorial will be added to Brisbane’s Anzac Square in 2018 to coincide with the 100 year commemoration of the 29 Aboriginal men from Queensland who served in the 11th Light Horse reinforcement.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dedicated Memorial Committee Queensland (ATSIDMCQ) and Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art have partnered to short-list four potential designs for the memorial. Maquettes, or scale models, of the short-listed designs are currently on display at the Museum of Brisbane. The selection of the winning design will be made by the ATSIDMCQ in early 2016.
